Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about pricing, licensing, and how we work

Here are the questions we hear most around Carrollton. If yours isn’t covered, just call (888) 711-4778 and talk to Shelby, or email [email protected] and we’ll get you a real answer the same business day.

How do you land on a price, and is it really flat?
Yes. After we see your home — in person or through a quick video walkthrough — we write you a flat number for the whole job instead of running a meter all day. Locally that works out to $144/hr for a two-mover crew and truck or $199/hr for three movers, and most homes land in published bands: a 1-bedroom runs $640–$960 and a 3-bedroom $1,760–$2,600, for example. Long-distance moves start at $2,340 as a binding written quote. The price you sign is the price you pay.
What's the $130 deposit for, and do I lose it?
The $130 holds your spot on our calendar, and it isn't an extra charge — it comes straight off your final total. As long as you give us reasonable notice if your plans change (we ask for at least 48 hours), you can reschedule without losing it. It's only forfeited on a last-minute cancellation or a no-show, since that's a truck and crew we set aside for you.
What comes with the crew without me paying more for it?
Every local job includes the truck, furniture blankets, dollies, hand trucks, straps, and basic tools, plus disassembly and reassembly of standard furniture like bed frames and table legs. We wrap and pad your furniture as part of the move. The only things that cost extra are packing materials if you want our full-pack service and specialty items like a piano, which we'll always price out in advance.
Can you box everything up, or do I have to pack myself?
Either way works. Plenty of customers pack their own boxes and just have us do the heavy lifting. If you'd rather not touch a carton, our full-pack crew brings the boxes, paper, and tape and wraps the whole house — kitchens and closets included. We can also do a partial pack where we handle the breakables and fragile rooms and you take the rest.
On a move to another city, is it the same crew the whole way?
It is. The movers who load your home in Carrollton are the ones who drive it and carry it into your new place — there's no warehouse stop and no handing your shipment off to a different van-line crew you've never met. One team, start to finish, which is why fewer things get lost or banged up in transit.
If something gets damaged, what actually covers it?
Every shipment includes released-value coverage at $0.60 per pound per item at no extra cost, which is the standard. For better protection you can add full-value coverage, where covered items are handled at replacement value. We also carry up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage per shipment. We'll explain both options before your move so you can pick what fits.
Are you actually licensed to move people in Texas?
Yes. We keep our household-goods mover registration current with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, which is the agency that regulates movers in the state, and we carry US DOT and MC authority for any move that crosses state lines. We're happy to share our numbers — a legitimate Texas mover should always be able to show them.
Wait — are you a moving company or one of those booking sites?
We're the moving company, full stop. Moving Day Movers owns the trucks in our Carrollton lot and employs the uniformed crew that runs them. We are not a broker, a matching service, or a lead site that takes your info and sells it to whoever bids. When you call, you're talking to the people who will actually show up and do the work.
How do you handle moving in the Texas summer heat or a spring storm?
North Texas summers hit triple digits for weeks, so on hot days we start early, keep the crew hydrated, and load heat-sensitive items like electronics and candles last and first off the truck. During spring storm and tornado season we watch the radar and time the loading around the worst of it. We'd rather adjust the schedule by an hour than rush a move through a downpour.
I need to move soon, or my date just shifted — can you still help?
Often, yes. We keep some flexibility in the schedule for short-notice moves, though summer weekends fill up fastest. If your closing date slides or your lease changes, call (888) 711-4778 as early as you can and we'll do our best to keep your crew lined up. Earlier is always easier, but we don't give up on a tight timeline.
Can you move a piano, a gun safe, or other heavy oddities?
We can. Pianos — uprights and baby grands alike — gun safes, pool tables, large appliances, and other awkward heavy pieces get the right dollies, straps, and a crew that's done it before. Specialty handling starts at $369 depending on the item and the stairs involved, and we'll quote it up front so there's no surprise at the truck.
Do you offer storage if my new place isn't ready?
Yes — when your move-out and move-in dates don't line up, we can hold your belongings in storage and deliver them once you're ready. It's a common situation with closing delays and lease gaps around here, so just tell Derek when you get your quote and we'll build the storage time into the plan and the price.
How far ahead should I get on your calendar?
For a weekday move with a little flexibility, a week or two is usually plenty. For a Saturday, the end of the month, or anytime in the summer rush, two to four weeks is safer because those dates go first. That said, if you're up against a hard deadline, call us anyway — we fill last-minute slots more often than you'd think.
Are these your own trucks, or do you rent them?
They're ours. We run a fleet of about seven trucks out of our Carrollton lot, maintained and stocked by us and driven by our own movers. We're not borrowing a rental or routing your job to an outside carrier — the truck that pulls up to your house is a Moving Day Movers truck with a Moving Day Movers crew on it.
